展览介绍 | Introductiom
人们乘着船，让河流带他们去远方。人与景随时间更迭，河不停流动、树向阳生长，旧地重游才发现每一次重逢都是崭新的相遇。
布景里河流静定，那是画师将河的记忆转化描写，也是留影人对遥远的渴望。人们热衷与风景名胜合照，只为纪念这独一无二的瞬间，证明自己曾到此一游，日子久了，一方扁平映像成为召唤记忆的起点。
双频道录像《河》延续系列前作以手绘布景形构时空。彷佛寓言故事，描述一对年轻夫妻期待拍出世界上最美丽的合照，然而若以合照比拟完美爱情，这个追寻似乎在一开始便注定失败。影像中的布景彩绘了一条河，令人神往，乘着这条河流，你可以去任何地方却也哪都去不了。
廖祈羽出生于80年代的台湾，在她记忆所及，那个时期拍摄家族肖像总会使用“欧美地区美好风光”的摄影布景，那些风行于摄影棚背景纸上的时空场景，不仅体现人们心之所向，更是对远方的美好想象和企求。近期作品取材自老相馆拍摄家族肖像的经验，一张张摄影布景都是梦幻绝景，充满异国情调却离日常所见甚远，而故事就留存在想象与现实之间。
Traveling by ship, people let the river take them to a faraway place. While people and scenery change with time, rivers flow as always and trees grow towards the Sun. You won’t find the reunion is actually the brand new encountering until visiting the old places.
In the setting, the river stops still, and that is how thepainter transformed his memory towards the river and it is also people’s desire towards remote places. People are fond of having photo with famous tourist sites, and it is just for memorizing the unique moment, proving that they have once visited. With time passing by, the flattened image then becomes thestarting point recalling the memory.
The dual-channel video “River” serving as the second episode of the same series; it continues the style that forming the time-space setting with hand-drawing background. “River” functions like an allegory, depicting ayoung couple who are longing for taking the most fascinating couple photo in the world. However, if you take the couple photo as perfect love, it somehow predicts that this pursuit would fail at the very beginning. In the video, there paints a river on the background canvas, which fascinates its audience.With this river, you may go to wherever you wish; yet, at the meanwhile, you can go nowhere in the other way.
LIAO Chi-Yu was born in Taiwan in the 80s. In her memory, at that time, it was a trend to shoot family portrait with the setting of wonderful European and American scenery. Those settings of time and space once popular among photo studios not merely realize people’s aspiration but also their imagination and desire toward far off lands. Recent works of LIAO Chi-Yu are derived from (her personal) experiences taking family photos in old-fashioned photography studio. Each photo background painting is breathtakingly beautifulscenery. They are full of exotic sense and stay far away from our daily scene. And the stories are kept in-between the imagination and the reality.

河无尽流动、树总是朝向阳光生长，许多事物如常存在、延续，不以为意，直到旧地重游，这才发现每一次重逢都是崭新的相遇。
Rivers flow as always and trees grow towards the Sun. Everything goes the way it goes. You won’t find the reunion abrand new encountering until visiting the old places twice.

1986年出生于台湾台南，现居住于台北。
廖祈羽以录像作品为主要创作媒介，擅长影像叙事，作品聚焦身体经验、记忆与情感，甜美的影像风格交杂生活里随处可见暴力与冲突，或是生命中不可逆的无奈与哀愁，借由角色模拟、开放性叙事，探讨生活经验里不同层面之感受，细腻描绘许多人之间的共同时刻。曾获UNITEXT立陶宛考纳斯双年展竞赛评审团特别奖，受邀德国波恩录像艺术双年展，也多次受邀国际展览。近期举办的个展包括“河不停流”（VT Artsalon，台北）、“忘忧公园”（a.m. space，香港）及“清明梦”（伊通公园，台北）。
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, 1986. Resides inTaipei, Taiwan.
Liao Chi-Yu is a Taiwanese artist specializing in video and video installation works. She is particularly adept in the use of role-play and open-ended narrative to explore subtle and complicated feelings of life, regarding body experiences, memory and love, or moments when people connect with one another. LAIO has been invited to participate in international exhibitions such as Videonale and Kaunas Biennial.Recent exhibitions include River still,River goes at VT ARTSALON in Taipei, Sanssouci Park at a.m. space in Hong Kong, Lucid Dreaming at IT PARK in Taipei.
